Hi! I don’t know how much advice I can give, about making junk journals for beginners but since you are on this page, it means you are expecting it from me.
I will give you 5 quick tips for making your first junk journals, as I myself have changed the look and fillability of my junk journals more than once. You may be interested in learning more.
There are so many videos, workshops, and reviews about junk journals for beginners right now. I, too, remember not knowing where to start at the beginning of my art. It seemed to me that my first junk journal would never come together.
1
And so, the first recommendation – decide for what purpose you need your junk journal
I know that some people make junk journal just to record stuff in it. Then maybe a blank journal and some stamping will work for you.
If you’d like to keep various valuable little cute things in it and use it mostly as an art journal, then your goal is a junk journal, perhaps with few pages, but with lots of pockets, envelopes, and secret places.
If you’d like to write something down and store cute things in it at the same time, it’s important to combine a fillable junk journal with enough space for writing.

Second tip for junk journals for beginners. Decide on the materials you would like to see in your junk journal.
Yes, yes, over time I’ve learned that this is important. And even if you have a mountain of junks or special scrapbook materials in front of you, it’s important to find out for yourself what material you like most. As for me, in addition to paper, also love music sheets, embroidered fabric and lace. And such journals become especially favorite. And in reverse: if you don’t like a certain material, it’s better not to use it.

Third tip. Use more different materials and prints.
Not suitable for everyone. Perhaps someone likes minimalism. But it is worth trying. I have encountered boredom in my work using one collection of scrapbooking paper. And I noticed that the combination of different collections, prints, additions of different materials make my work only more interesting.

Fourth tip. Do the decor yourself for junk journals for beginners.
With all the variety of ready-made materials for scrapbooking, I make some of the decor myself. Of course, much of the decor is easier to buy. Here everyone chooses for himself. But in my scrapbooking, I have a strong hold on homemade elements that are easy for me to make myself. Among them are
- thread tassels,
- paper envelopes and tags,
- clay figures (made with molds),
- die-cuts.

Last Fifth Tip. Revise the junk journal pages to add something else.
Why do I give this advice? Again, the more little things, the more interesting. Of course, balance is important, but I like it when there are a lot of small details and they are interesting to look at, to open.
Of course, there’s a bunch of other advice that can be given to newbies. I only gave the most general and important ones to me. Thank you for your attention. Write a comment, and more blog posts like this will appear.
Truly,
